Your money. Your devices.
Penny Goblin stores the household ledger on your devices. It does not require a hosted Penny Goblin account, and this website is separate from the application.
Scanning and models
Android’s text recognition runs on-device. Optional local models can extract receipt fields on your phone or desktop. If you choose a paired desktop scan, the receipt image is sent to that authenticated desktop over the encrypted connection. Model files are downloaded separately from their configured source.
Pairing and synchronization
Pairing authenticates your desktop and pins its TLS certificate. Your devices must be reachable over a local network or your configured Tailscale connection. Treat pairing links and QR codes as private. Secure access to your devices and keep backups of the ledger and receipt evidence.
Optional online research
Desktop category research sends merchant names and country context to online search and visits relevant sources. Payment amounts, accounts and receipt images are not included in those searches. Search providers and visited websites may process network metadata under their own policies.
Research is optional. Blocked or uncertain results can stay uncategorized. The model does not save category changes: you review the evidence and explicitly apply selected suggestions.
This website
This static website has no analytics scripts, tracking pixels, external fonts or account forms. It is hosted by GitHub Pages, whose infrastructure processes web requests under GitHub’s policies. Links to GitHub or other services follow those services’ policies. Illustrations use fictional example payments, not a real ledger.
Development limits
Penny Goblin is an early development project. OCR and models can misread images or suggest a wrong category. Review totals, dates and merchants before saving. CI builds are development artifacts, not audited financial software or a promise of support for every device and Linux distribution.
